As this is
being written, there is one evening of Vacation Bible School remaining. All
reports thus far are that there was very good attendance (around 150 the
first night!) Did you know that in one week of VBS, more time is spent
reaching out to children about Jesus and His plan for their lives than can
be accomplished in twelve weeks of Sunday School??!! It's a winner no
matter how you look at it!
Calvary's team of two men and our group of youth and their sponsors (14
people) will have accomplished their outreach in Nicaragua and in
Gatlinburg, Tennessee respectively by the time you read this. Four and a
half concrete block homes were provided in Nicaragua with the funds you
gave. In addition to physical labor, Calvary's two missionaries (Lowell
Carder and Stuart Gilstrap) made spiritual inroads as they worked there.
There is no way to know the number of lives touched by the youth team as
they ministered in a campground with activities for children during the day,
campfire services for families during the evening, and a booth at a local
fair. Watch next month's Missions Corner for a more detailed report of
these trips.
The Alpine Village outreach will continue on Wednesday nights
through August 11th. Your response has been great in helping with this
10-week project, both in being available with your presence at the
Village and in contributing the back-to-school items we have requested for
the 100 children and youth in that area. Thank you! The deacons, two per
week, have presented unique, attention-holding, Christ-centered testimonies
to the children and some of their parents and grandparents who listened from
the sidelines. The next two Sundays, August 1 and 8, will be catch-up days,
so if you have not contributed yet, there is still time to write a check for
$20 and put it in an envelope marked "Alpine Village". This will purchase
one of each item for one child. Or you can bring any or all of the
following and place them in the bins in the foyer: Bar soap, shampoo,
toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, comb, tissues (not purse-size), kids'
Band-Aids (with characters on them), and antiperspirant.
Please pray for the Missions Council as we consider how the
Lord would have us use the missions funds that you are giving faithfully
each week. We are very mindful of the responsibility that is ours to use
your gifts generously but wisely. The Missions Council
